Meet Jared. A keen movie buff, especially fond the odd action or superhero movie, and a fan of Matt Fraser, the fittest man in the world, Jared is a regular at our 1830 classes. We caught up with the man himself to hear his story.
What brought you to CrossFit Hutt Valley in the first place?
I was looking to try something new to get out of a rut with my current routine at a local mainstream gym. Olympic lifting had always interested me. However, from previous experiences, attempting to self teach from YouTube videos (often ending in frustration), I decided this time I would give a coach or PT a go to learn the relevant lifts. CrossFit wasn’t completely off the cards either, as I thought learning Olympic lifting would assist with the transition into classes when and if the time came.
What was your first impression? How has that changed?
There was definitely no hard sell during and after our first meeting – Paul also let me know what he and the gym were about to ensure that fitted in with what I was after. Paul came across as really friendly too, which was my first experience of CrossFit Hutt Valley being “The Friendly Gym”. First impression hasn’t changed – not only does Paul live up to being a major part of the friendly gym so do all of the other members.
What was your first “eureka moment”?
Receiving a follow up email from our first meeting that included a program tailored to what I was after – I feel Paul really listened to what I said I and the program reflected that. This on-top of no hard sell or over selling made me feel like this may be the place for me!
What are you working on now?
After coming back from a month’s break from training for my wedding and honeymoon, I decided to bite the bullet and join the classes and haven’t looked back! My initial PT sessions have really allowed me to hit the ground running too.
What’s your favourite CFHV memory?
Meeting everyone! More so, everyone taking time out to introduce themselves to me when I first started with my PT sessions, and then especially with the classes, as it can be intimidating being the new guy.
And that’s Jared’s My CFHV story. Thanks for taking the time to read it and stay tuned for another installment coming your way soon. If you’d like to star in your own story, book a time to talk to one of our expert coaches here.
Stay healthy Coach Paul
