You’ve got this – simple steps to staying healthy
Last year the spectre of lockdown was new to us.
This time around, we’re a little more experienced when it comes to the emotions level 4 brings.
Whilst we may know what to expect, the effect on our well-being may be a touch more difficult to see this time around.
The best thing we can do is to be sympathetic to ourselves.
We’re bound to be wound up a little tighter than usual, the small things might seem a little more irritating.

1 – Move
Get out for a walk. Yes, even if it is raining. Whilst making sure you’re adhering to all relevant advice on the https://covid19.govt.nz/ website, getting outside is a great way to boost your coping mechanisms.
Tip – don’t worry about intensity here. Use your time out walking to recenter yourself. You can get your heart rate up with 100 burpees when you get home!
2 – Rest
Don’t change your sleep routine.
Just because you might have a couple of extra days at home this week, don’t let it alter your normal sleep routine. Stay consistent with 7-8 hrs sleep and you’ll be golden.
Tip – ditch the phone an hour before bed, and keep it out of your bedroom.
3 – Breathe
Focus on deep breathing, use the cadence of
-4 seconds in
-4 seconds hold
-4 seconds out
-4 seconds hold
This will help you trigger our bodies parasympathetic response and help you relax.
Tip – Try nasal only breathing to really double down on the relaxative effect
4 – Be kind.
Whilst you might be ok, others may not.
Be patient when you’re at the supermarket, check on your neighbours and we’ll all get through this together.
Tip – Be nice. Sure it’s tough when you’re stressed but a little love goes a long way.
