International Quitter Week 12th-19th January!

Did you know this week is international quitters week?

That’s right, this week is the graveyard for many well-intentioned New Years Resolutions, hashtags like #NewYearNewMe and so on.

Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Research by Strava, the social fitness network, discovered the period 12th to 19th January is the fateful period when our motivation falters.

What starts out with aspirational goals like ‘I’m going running every day’ devolves into ‘My feet are too sore, My knees hurt, and running isn’t for me after a couple of weeks.

For the majority of us, running is a great form of exercise.

The issue is our mobility, flexibility and strength are not ready for running in the volume we attempt when trying to achieve our goal.

The same goes for ‘I’m going to lose 10kgs’.

We start off cutting everything from our nutritional intake, we stoically refuse cake at birthday parties, beer and wine at the weekend, and then two or three weeks in, we say stuff it, this is too hard, and we’re done!

Why so tough?!

The reason why change is so hard is it requires patience and consistency.

There are no quick fixes and success means a lifestyle change, not a pill, detox, skinny tea or radical calorie deficit combined with beating yourself into the ground with unreasonable exercise expectations.

What is going to work for me?
