MEET STEVE.

Steve is one of our quiet achievers, both in and out of the gym. In the gym, he goes about his business quietly and effectively.

Out of the gym, he recently (with little fanfare) disappeared to Tonga for what seemed to be a well earned holiday.

Turns out he was volunteering for the South Pacific Animal Welfare organisation, providing expert support and working some pretty long days!

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO CROSSFIT HUTT VALLEY IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Having done CrossFit for a few years in Dunedin prior to moving to the Hutt Valley, I was keen to continue what I had started.

I was looking for a gym that had an open, friendly feel with people who pushed themselves hard, but enjoyed themselves whilst doing it.

CrossFit Hutt Valley certainly had that community feel about it.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION? HOW HAS THAT CHANGED?

My first impression was of a small gym, just starting to develop itself, but with big ambitions.

Over my time there it has been great to see everyone develop (coaches and members), and see the improvements of creating a great friendly but competitive environment where everyone can succeed.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “EUREKA MOMENT”?

At CrossFit Hutt Valley, the most impressive moments I have seen and been involved in are when other members have pushed themselves, and achieved a goal which they never would have dreamed of when first walking in and joining.

There is always a massive amount of energy in the gym and everyone pushes each other to push that little bit harder and further than they thought possible.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

No specific goals. Having returned to rugby this year, it has been an effort getting my body used to that type of punishment and trying to maintain running around a pitch again.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE CFHV MEMORY?

This year’s CrossFit open, where everyone in the gym got involved, and pushed themselves to achieve so much. The enthusiasm and commitment put in, and of course, the huge effort made by all team captains to build up and encourage their teams.

And that’s Steve’s My CFHV story.

Thanks for taking the time to read it and stay tuned for another installment coming your way soon.
